Mommy Makeover

Being a mom can be incredibly rewarding, although the post-pregnancy body changes can be difficult and unwelcome. A mommy makeover can boost your confidence by improving body contour, breast shape and overall appearance.

Pregnancy can be magical, although it can take a toll on your body. As a woman's body prepares to accommodate a growing baby and to breastfeed, many notice a temporary change in breast size and weight, an expanding abdomen and the storage of fat in different areas. Many of these changes are temporary, but the impact on your body can be permanent. For areas that do not respond well to a healthy diet and exercise after pregnancy, a mommy makeover may be the answer.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A “mommy makeover” is a set of customized plastic surgery procedures designed to address your specific body and breast concerns after pregnancy and childbirth. Every mother is unique, so each mommy makeover procedure is unique. Generally, after pregnancy and childbirth most women want to address sagging breasts, a lack of breast volume, loose skin and fat on the abdomen and pockets of fat that remain unchanged after diet and exercise.

Our mommy makeover includes three main procedures -- a breast lift and/or augmentation, a tummy tuck and liposuction. A consultation with our Board Certified Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, Dr. William Schleicher , will determine if you need all three procedures or a combination of two to achieve the results you desire.

BREAST LIFT AND/OR AUGMENTATION

Although your breasts should return to normal size after breastfeeding, the impact of the extra volume from milk production can often times affect the integrity of the breast skin. This can result in loose or excess skin and a deflated or droopy breast appearance. A breast lift or mastopexy can reduce the excess skin and lift the breasts to a perkier more youthful position. You may also consider resizing or repositioning the nipple and areola to improve the proportion to the rest of the breast.

If you have experienced volume loss, a breast lift alone will not add the fullness you seek. Dr. Schleicher may recommend a breast lift with an augmentation. In this case, excess skin will be removed, remaining skin will be tightened, and a breast implant will be added to restore fullness and improve the overall shape of the breast.

TUMMY TUCK

After giving birth, you may be unhappy with the appearance of your lower abdomen. Many women experience the presence of loose or hanging skin, stubborn deposits of fat, and some even experience abdominal pain or weakness if the vertical muscles of the abdominal wall have separated. A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, can remove excess skin, tighten remaining skin, and repair the underlying abdominal muscles -- resulting in a smoother tummy and a more youthful appearance.

LIPOSUCTION

Even with a healthy diet and exercise, you may find it difficult to get rid of excess pockets of fat after pregnancy, even after shedding the baby weight. Once gained, fat cells never go away naturally—they just grow or shrink in size. During pregnancy, these fat cells can end up in the abdomen, hips, and thighs, and can be extremely difficult to get rid of using only diet and exercise. Liposuction can permanently remove this fat and sculpt a slimmer and more defined body contour.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Deciding if a mommy makeover is right for you, which combination of procedures will give you the desired results, and the specific risks involved can only be determined after a consultation with Dr. William Schleicher . All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally, while major complications are unusual. If you're interested in more information on a mommy makeover or would like to know if you're a good candidate, please schedule a free consultation (for cosmetic plastic surgery procedures only) by calling our office at 804-282-4940.

Billing & Payment

Because a mommy makeover consists of several procedures and is unique for each individual, pricing can only be determined after a consult with Dr. Schleicher . Mommy makeover surgery is considered cosmetic surgery and not covered by health insurance. The patient is responsible for payment.
